Ethan's World: 20 Months

And just like that we are in the 20's! I can't believe you will be 2 in only 4 months! I am going to get started on your birthday party planning but I'm struggling with what the theme should be. Of course you love your Thomas choo choos, but you have really started loving Sesame Street and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood too. I need to make a decision soon so we'll see what you end up with! 

You are still talking like crazy and adding more and more words. You try and repeat what we say and it's so cool to hear your little voice. Your list keeps growing and I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but here is your word list: Dada, Mama, car, choo choo, ball, shoe, this, yeah, bye bye, purple, blue, touchdown, dog, cat, gone, done, cracker, pretty, strawberry, corn, uh oh, duck, night night, Santa, ho ho ho, Papa, two, three, four, five, wow, gorilla, giraffe, horse, fishy, frog, ta ta (Thomas), baby, track, cheese, cookie, water, pasta, paci, balloon, hi, cousins, pee pee, poo poo. 

About those last two new words, in the past two weeks you have become aware of your bodily functions. Most of the time you tell us after you've gone but you actually went poo poo on the potty for the first time last week! We haven't started potty training or anything yet but I do think I'm going to get you a potty so we have it when you seem 100% ready. I can't say I would mind not having to change diapers anymore!

I think my favorite word you started saying this month is "cheese." You finally say cheese and look at the camera when I take your picture. It is the cutest thing. As soon as my camera comes out you start saying, "cheese, cheese, cheese!" 

"Cheese!"

In addition to all the new words you've been saying, you are also doing amazingly well learning your ABC's. You are obsessed with the letter puzzle we got you and you officially know the alphabet! You can say almost all of the letters and you know all 26 letters by sight if we ask you where they are on the puzzle or to find a letter on the floor and put it in the puzzle. I can't believe you know your ABC's, you are so smart! You have also been learning your letters watching Sesame Street too. This video is your favorite thing ever right now and you want to watch it every day. You dance around and say the letters and it is the cutest thing ever! You love when Daddy and I sing you the ABC song too. We sing it every night before you go bed at least twice.

You never stop moving these days and running seems to be your only speed. We tell you to stop running in the house at least 20 times a day! You are trying so hard to jump and it is the funniest thing to watch. You crouch down like you are going to spring up with some huge jump and instead you leap forward into the floor on your face, HA! This Winter really stinks because we haven't been able to be outside at all. I think we are going to have to start making weekly trips to the Children's Museum or one of the indoor play places so we can get all of that energy out! Spring can not come soon enough! 

We have managed to have some fun outside in the snow though. You finally embraced the snow and had so much fun playing in it!

Another fun new thing you are doing is not eating in your high chair anymore! We got you a new big boy table at Ikea and you love it! You've been eating meals, doing crafts and even just playing there. We are going to put the high chair away for good now.

The one rough thing this month has been your teeth. You have been cutting 4 canine teeth at the same time! 3 of them are finally through and we have one bottom one to go. You had some cranky days but luckily it didn't effect your sleeping. We just have 4 molars left and then we are done with this teething business!

A fun adventure we had this month was your first visit to the Shedd Aquarium. You absolutely loved it! You had so much fun running around and looking at all of the fish swimming in the tanks. You were saying, "wow, fishy, wow," the whole time.

Our favorite thing this month though has been celebrating Christmas with you. It was so much fun seeing your face light up at all of the different things we did this month. You loved the Christmas tree, lights, your train, Christmas book countdown, crafts, cookie decorating and of course presents! It's our favorite time of year and we just love doing so many special things and creating traditions with you.

Other stat updates: Your weight is right at 29 pounds and you are officially 37 inches tall. You are up to 16 teeth, including 4 molars. You are pretty much wearing all 2T clothes. You have been eating really well lately so no complaints there. One really big change is that you are transitioning to one nap a day. You've been going down now after lunch and sleeping for 2 - 3 hours. You go to bed around 6:30 and sleep at least 12 hours, usually waking up around 7 in the morning. We continue to be thankful for your amazing sleeping abilities!

Ethan, you are the best part of our day and we love you so much. It was wonderful having my 17 day break from work to be able to spend all day, every day with you. You are so much fun right now and we just laugh and laugh at your funny personality. We are constantly amazed at how quick you learn things and you're desire to figure out the world around you. I can't wait to see what next month will bring. We love you so much little man!
